Dragon Ball in Summer 2025

Dragon Ball is currently at a point of many question marks regarding its future. Let me share some of my thoughts about what's going on and not going on recently.

With no update regarding legal battle between Shueisha and Iyoku – as well as no longer having Toriyama with us – things seems stuck. Out of curiosity I wanted to check where that new company actually is and it's actually not that far from Shueisha. A big office building near Kudanshita station and not far from the Nippon Budokan where the the "DBS Broly" premiere in 2018 was held – around that period I was commuting to work in that area actually quite often. In August was in the area again and walked a bit around. That building has a nice lounge on the first floor and also terraces accessible for anyone. Office area of course has restricted entry, so I couldn't actually see the company name written on a sign or something.

What I didn't know until recently though is that "Capsule Corporation Tokyo" appears in the credits of Sparking Zero as "Supervision". Akio Iyoku and two of his employees are mentioned. The same ones which appeared with him in previous games like Sand Land or Kakarot DLCs (but still under Shueisha). The announcement for the next Battle Hour in April next year actually mentions CC Tokyo as well. Are things going forward or just some deal they could find for time being?

Anyway, while that's going on the DBS manga remains to be on break. But at least Toyotarou is in the public eye more than ever. In May I could actually see him for the first time at an autograph session for a Super Divers event in Makuhari. I knew I had to be early in the morning to be one of the 40 people in line, but was hard to judge for a little event at an Aeon Mall. I just returned from a trip from Kyoto the night before, but still made it for 7AM at the line, but "number 40" seemingly only arrived like 10-15 minutes earlier according X posts of people waiting in line. Anyway, I could join the "Kasai line" and got his shikishi at least. For Toyotarou's session me and a friend found a nice spot from a few floors up, where we could also see the backstage area with Toyotarou arriving there with Uchida (who I first didn't recognize without the yellow hat and he was completely dressed in black).

In Juli I went to JUMP Victory Carnival and again had a chance for getting a drawing from Toyotarou. In the morning you could pick a number and in the afternoon you could check on a board whether your numbers was drawn. Out of 3000 people only around 110 got the chance, the chances were low anyway. While signing the shikishis one by one I followed the session from distances. Along with Toyotarou also Victory Uchida and Victory Asada were on stage talking about each Dragon Ball Super manga cover one by one. I actually met Victory Uchida for a photo earlier – which Victory Asada taking it.

My overall impression is that the manga is intended to continue at some point. The spine image is current stuck at Shimorekka which Toyotarou mentioning had drawn it already for a few volumes ahead. And other vague comments appear like things should continue. But for various reasons they seemingly can't at the moment. And I do hope that Toyotarou actually gets the chance to finish it. The "limbo" right now is not ideal though. It could be a good chance to complete the "Resurrection F" portion, doing "Broly" or finally bringing out Victory Mission a collected volume with some extra pages. Or are they even not allowed to do that?

The interesting thing is that Toyotarou seemingly avoids anything with Daima. No special illustrations or comments (except that he watched it). His monthly drawings would be a good chance to do so, but it seems purposely avoided. Personally I'd like to see a Daima manga as well to have Toyo's take on it and possibility to fix some things, but that ship probably has sailed as well.

So what's next then? I could imagine Iyoku pushing for the next movie for which possibly already a script exists. If so, when would it take place? I could see it being after the original manga ending and Goku already training with Uub. Or even a continuation of Daima? There are many options, plus of course still the adaptation from the manga original DBS arcs.

Here's a rough idea what I would do (if the rights are clear):
- bringing DBS anime back in 2026, starting with an extended version of Broly and a Jaco TV special before heading to Moro
- Manga to return with a bigger arc involving many universes, Frieza, Zalama etc. 
- new movie in 2027 with a story involving Goku and Uub
- manga to reach the 28th tournament in 2028/29 (doing it from Uub's perspective) and then adapt the movie. 
- manga to follow DBO timeline as a base with additional content going forward
- anime should have plenty of content for a few years (including all adaptations and additional filler etc).
- Bonus: a DB Legends movie or mini-series about Saiyan history

I doubt things will go that way, but I'm not that negative about possible breaks. The last arc in Slam Dunk took about 25 years to get adapted, with Bleach more than 10 years ... Not the same respective situations, but things will come eventually.

The Forest of Frieza's Hell - 「復活のF」Trivia #002

 In Volume F we find a few more details about the hell where Frieza is hanging in a cocoon on a tree. And even differences between manga and anime/movie. What could be the reason for that?

As I finally acquired "Volume F" last year which includes the screenplay of the movie written by Akira Toriyama I sometimes go through and find some interesting details. Last time it was about the location where Frieza got back to live. Let's continue with the next one: The Forest of Frieza's Hell!

"Frieza's Hell", first introduced in "Resurrection F", is displayed as huge flower garden with a tree in both the movie and the anime. However in the promotional manga for the movie as well as in chapter 32 of the Dragon Ball Super manga, you can see more trees in the background, at least five more. But why is there a difference? 

If you look at the very first line of the screenplay on page 28 of "Volume F" you may find a hint about what could have happened there. It says:

森に囲まれたお花畑。
(もりにかこまれたおはなばたけ）

English: A flower garden surrounded by a forest.

That's what it literally sounds like and seemingly Toriyama's visual description of how the "hell" should look like. However, for unknown reasons in the animated versions it looks rather like a tree surrounded by a flower garden. Or are there more trees, but just so far away that they are not visible?

Frieza's hell in chapter 32

As the term "forest" (森) is used here, Toyotaro's depiction comes closer here, although the trees a still standing a bit apart. Seemingly he made the manga following the script more closely and didn't follow a possible final change in the movie version. Which we don't know.

Interestingly enough, he keeps this version consistent. As seen in chapter 32 when Goku visits Frieza in hell, we can still see two more trees in the background. 

So are there more villians on other trees? As I haven't played the story of Dragon Ball FighterZ I'm not actually aware, but as I read it's seemingly implied that Cell, Nappa and the Ginyu Force may also went to that hell.

Anyway, it's interesting to see these two versions of that hell, both remaining consistent in each respective medium.

Meister Toriyama hat mich angewiesen, wie die Kopfbeugung korrekt auszusehen hat... Natürlich als Bildergeschichte (lacht).

(Anm.: Bild zeigt wie sich Jaco vor dem Galaktischen König dafür entschuldigt, dass sie Moro nicht wieder einfangen konnten, inklusive Toyotaro's Entwurf der Szene und Toriyama's Korrektur).

Vorschautext:

Zusammen mit dem Groß-Kaioshin aus dem Inneren von Boo geht der Kampf gegen den schrecklichen Moro vom Weltraum wieder zurück nach Neu-Namek. Ich habe ja schon das eine oder andere Hobby, aber nichts worüber man groß was erzählen könnte. Es sind halt dieselben, die andere Leute auch haben. Von daher rede ich auch über nichts anderes als Dragon Ball.

追放されたの兄 - ドラゴンボール・ファンフィクション#002

チライの願いのおかげでブロリーはゴジータとの対決バトルを行き残して小惑星バンパに戻りました。この出来事にも巻き込まれたのフリーザと言う宇宙の帝王はあとで地球から逃げてしまいました。そのあとしばらく時間が流れた、フリーザはいろいろことを考えています。

ご注意ください。私は日本語を勉強するのドイツ人のドラゴンボール大ファンです。だから、文法や単語や書き方はまだカンペキじゃない。上達するのアドバイスあれば、コメントしてください。ありがとうございます。

「 いくら、私が頑張って戦闘力をあげても、敵はソンゴクウとベジータの2人...こっちだって、もう1人くらい欲しいですよ...」

宇宙船でフリーザはベリブルと話しています「さあ。ソンゴクウさんとベジータさんは変なダンスして合体したんですよね。その力は興味深いことですね。」「そうだね。この技はメタモル人に発明された。」ベリブルが答えた。「メタモル人ですか？聞いたことあると思うんですよ。たしかギニューたちはあの時この惑星に行ったっけ。」フリーザが覚えていました。「その通りです。だからこの惑星に生き残った人間はないです。それより、今日は君の家族の大事件の五十周年ですね。カレ会いたいんですか?」ベリブルが聞いた。フリーザはびっくりした。「ちょっと、何を企んでいるんですか?」「カレと一緒に強くなればついにサイヤ人の民族を倒せるんですね。」ベリブルが作戦を考えました。

50年前に（エイジ730）フリーザはコルド星と言う惑星に住んでいた。この氷と雪の星には元々フリーザの民族の星でした。あの日にコルド大王は大きなミッションから帰って来た。王城に待っていたフリーザは笑顔で父の帰省を待っていた、宇宙船に見る。「ついに帰りました。」コルド大王が言った。長男のクウラと一緒に帰った。

「ほお。フリーザちゃん、コルド星の生活楽しんでいるんですか？」クウラに忌々しく聞かれた。「よくも！」 フリーザは怒りと短気でクウラに攻撃した。クウラは王城から近くの氷の湖に飛ぶれた。「ほほほ。勝負しようか？」「違いますよ。てめえ殺したいことにした、兄さん。あなたの代わりにパパと宇宙に行く。後任になる。」フリーザが叫びた。クウラは「 あなたのクソガキはまだ弱すぎる！一番息子の力を見せてあげる。」 クウラはスーパーノヴァを準備していた時に突然攻撃された。 王城からクウラの肩が当たれた。

「まさか、父上？なんでだ？」クウラの左の肩が当たられた。コルド大王は厳しい顔見せる。

「我が星を消滅するな！俺の後任の対決の勝負か？いいよ！他の地に戦え！」コルト大王は大声で言いました。

「分かりました。宇宙へ行く、フリーザ！」

そのあと二人の兄弟はコルド星の衛生に向かていた。「あれはどう、フリーザちゃん？いい墓場でしょう?」

「兄と同じ意見ですね。素晴らしい。」

カルトという衛星にコルド大王の後任の戦闘が始まていた。2人は必死に戦ていたけど、衛星はそろそろバラバラになった。だから宇宙に戦いが進んでいた。コルド大王も宇宙に行って、自分の子供たちのバトルを見たかった。

戦闘中にフリーザは最終形態まで変身した。「遊びはここまでだ。」

「悪くない、フリーザちゃん。これから俺も最後の変身を...」

変身する前に突然フリーザのデスビームでクウラが当たれた。「貴様、それは...」

次々デスビームを打つのフリーザは「どうでしょう、兄さん。弟に負けの感じは最低でしょうね。」

クウラは気を失ってコルド星の地面に落ちった。血が雪の地面に流れていた。

フリーザとコルド大王はクウラの体へ飛んでいた。

「死んだのか?」　コルド大王が聞いた「いいよ、残念ながら、まだ生きている。じゃあ、とどめを...」

「待って。まだ我が家族だ。カレを生きておいてください。」

「なんで、パパ?」

「もし、未来に我が家族が強敵に勝ってない時の状況あれば、カレが必要です。覚えといて、破壊神ビルスと魔人ブウだけは手を出すな。」　

「分かりました。これからどうするつもりですか？」

コルド大王は「とりあえず、北極に追放することにした。」

「面白いアイデアですね。」

「そうします。あと、おめでとう！フリーザは後任することを願った。」

「ありがとう、パパ」

現在、フリーザの宇宙船はコルド星へ向かえる。「さすがべㇼブルさんですね。自分の完全復活後に会ったことない。サルたちを倒すために兄の力を貸してもらう。」

「そうですね。では、行きましょう」宇宙船は上陸した。

コルド星の北極の洞窟の前に宇宙船が駐車した。「この中にだったけ？入りましょう」

フリーザが中のドア開ける時にクウラが起きる。

「ほほほほほ。久しぶりだね…兄さん」

「フリーザ!!!　何の用に来た？」

「一緒に強くなりたい？パパを殺したの民族を消滅したいんですか？」

「父上が死んだ？でも関係ない。ここに追放するのことはあいつのアイデアだった。貴様と同じ嫌い」

「サイヤ人という民族だった。今は宇宙の一番強いのです。家族の誇りはこの洞窟に忘れたんですか？」

「うるさい。でもあのサルたちが…？信じられん。」

「じゃあ。ここから出たいんですか？今は一世一代のチャンスでしょうね」

トリビア:

• カルトという衛星の名前はドイツ語の 「kalt」から。意味は英語の「cold」と同じ「寒い」です。
• 初めにフリーザのブロリーの映画の最後の文章を使った
• コルド大王のビルスと魔人ブウについてのアドバイスは「復活のF」から
• この話は次のドラゴンボールの映画のアイデアです。例えば「ドラゴンボール超クウラ」

Fanfiction story in Japanese #001: Cheelai and Jaco

 Jaco stops after another exhausting mission at his favorite space ramen place.  While enjoying his break time he wasn't aware that someone caught interest in his Galactic Patrol spaceship...

As I'm aiming to gradually to improve my Japanese I thought it could be a fun idea to write Dragon Ball short stories. This is the first one and join my ride to get better. Comments for improvement are always welcome.

「力の大会」のあとしばらく時間が流れた。地球の近くの太陽系に銀河パトロールのジャコは休憩を楽しんでいる。今は一番好きなスペースラーメンの店にいる。「最近はどうだった? ワタガシはもう監獄にいるんですか？」ジャコが聞いられた。「えー、そのことは…問題ではありませんですよ。」ジャコがおどおどで答えた。「そうですか。ではラーメンは美味しかったの？」宇宙人のクックが聞いた。「すごくおいしいけどちょっと辛いです。」「お前がこの辛味頼んだよ。」

ラーメンの宇宙船店の近くにジャコが自分の宇宙船駐車した。この寂しい星では他の人間がないはずです。でも近くの岩に女の宇宙人が待っている。彼女はスペースラーメン店を見える。「さすが、この野郎は本当にのんびりラーメン食べている。これはチャンスだ。」チライと言う女の宇宙人が自分と話した。

同時に地球の西の都にブルマとお姉さんのタイツが話している。「ブラは大きくなったね。子どもの時のブルマみたいだな。」「うん。ありがとう。でもこれは何？」ブルマが聞いた。「これがジャコからの贈り物です。自分の惑星のお菓子」「えー。そうですか。美味しいそう。でも、ジャコは今どこ？」「最後のメッセージは、えと、やっと週末だ。ラーメン時間です。」「今連絡しよう。」

スペースラーメン店でジャコの耳の中の電話が鳴いた。「今誰が？タイツ。何が今そんな重要ですか？」「ねー、ジャコ。贈り物をもらった。ありがとうね。」「ブルマだ？」ジャコがびっくりした。「いいよ。オレは銀河パトロールのエリートです。それはぜんぜん…なにが？」「外に見てください！」コックが言った。突然ジャコの宇宙船が打ち上げた。「なんだと？！誰よくも！」ジャコが怒る声で叫びた。「なにがあったの？シャコ？」ブルマが聞いた。「非常です。今切る。」「ちょっと…」

「これからなにをするつもりですか？」コックが空に見るながら聞いた。「早く、追う！スペースラーメンの宇宙船で。」「でも、今次のラーメンを作り始めたんですけど…」「しかたないです。早く、これは銀河パトロールのエリートの命令です！」「分かりました」ちょっとあとでスペースラーメンの宇宙船も打ち上げた。

「ちなみに、この宇宙船の速度はどう？」「本当に遅いです。おじいちゃんの最初の宇宙船でした。」「なに？意味は追いのチャンスはないです。とうして打ち上げたの？」「銀河パトロールのエリートの命令だったからな。」コックが答えた。シャコがちょっと考える。「たしかに、だから追う！」

同時にチライがシャコのぬ盗んだ宇宙船にいます。「やった。これはすごくカンタンだった。この銀河パトロールのバカ。じゃー、速度をチェックしましょう！」

「誰が宇宙船盗んだと思いますか？」コックが聞かれた。「しれねえ。オレが前にこのつまらない星に行ったし、悪い人捕まえたし。毎日の事だね。」「あなたの宇宙船は全然見えないから諦めようか？次の星に新しいラーメン作ってもいいのか？」「諦めないよ！でもラーメン食べたいよ。辛くないの！」ジャコが決めた。

同時にチライが他の宇宙船を見える。「これがフリーザ軍ですか？アタシに追わるの？やばい！でも、でも、アタシの宇宙船がこれより遅すぎだよ。」フリーザ軍の宇宙船が早く追った。銀河パトロールの宇宙船の中のチライが怖くなった。フリーザ軍が宇宙の最強の名声があります。「チャンスがない、終わりだ。」チライが思った。

少しあとでチライがフリーザ軍の宇宙船の中に捕まった。「あなたは銀河パトロールの戦士じゃない。どうしてこの宇宙船が一人で乗っていた？」フリーザ軍のベリブルが聞いた。チライはビビる感じで答える「休憩中に銀河パトロールの戦士から盗んだ。」「そう思った。実は最近私たちのフリーザ軍は去年の事件のせいで小さくなった。これからフリーザ様が新しいメンバーを探しています。あなたは完璧な戦士。入りませんか？」チライが渋くベリブルの顔に見て考えた「 入らなきゃ、他のチャンスはない。入らなければ、殺される。でもフリーザ軍面白いかも。」 だから決めた「はい、入ります。ありがとうございます。」「素晴らしい。では、この銀河パトロールの宇宙船はこれからフリーザ軍のです。盗むをありがとう、技師たちは調べています。銀河パトロールはくだらないけどすてきテクノロジーがあります。」チライは説明のおかげで興味があった。「面白い、銀河パトロールについて今は他の仕事がありますか？」「とりあえず大丈夫です。新しい服を着てください。この部屋に選んでください。」「ありがとうごさいます。」

同時にジャコがこの事件気づいた。「オレの宇宙船が今フリーザの宇宙船の中に。コックさん、このこと見なかった、わかったよ？本当にひみつです。」「わかりました、では前の星に帰ります。」「はい、あそこに食べよう、でも新しい宇宙船は必要です。あとでかんがえる。」

それがチライはフリーザ軍に入るの話。でももっと大きな事件が早来た。

• The space ramen place is the same one as in Dragon Ball Super Episode 73 & 74 (I really liked that idea （笑）)
• The story gives a connection to the beginning of Dragon Ball Super: Broly with focus on the character Cheelai (チライ) joining the Frieza army
